Here is Bath Spa University’s response to our Freedom of Information request:
Q: Does your HE establishment have a policy on the use of fur?
A: No, currently we do not have a policy restricting or promoting the use of fur, or accepting funding from the industry.
Q: Does real fur feature in any of your fashion or design courses, and if so, in what way?
A: Our course documents do not refer to the use of real fur.
Q: What financial support, including sponsored competitions do you receive from the fur industry?
A: We have no support financial or otherwise from the fur industry. We have had no University agreements or correspondence with the fur trade.
Q: Does your HE establishment allow or facilitate the fur industry to promote design competitions, summer schools, sponsorships, internships, or scholarships?
A: No, however the BFA promote competitions online, that are accessible by students.
This university has no clear stance on the use of fur.
Real fur is cruel and unnecessary. Please urge the University to adopt a fur free policy. Email: Louise Pickles, Course Leader – Fashion Design, firstname.lastname@example.org. Amanda Goode, Course Leader – Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors, email@example.com
