Here is University of Lincoln’s response to our Freedom of Information request:
Q: Does your HE establishment have a policy on the use of fur?
A: We do not have a policy
Q: Does real fur feature in any of your fashion or design courses, and if so, in what way?
A: Individual students have designed using fur but it is not a specified focus within any of our current modules. As with other national competitions the BFTA fur competition was shared with all our students and some have previously entered their design work.
Q: What financial support, including sponsored competitions do you receive from the fur industry?
A: We have a fur machine which is on long term loan from the British Fur Trade Association. They also have a competition, mentioned above, that is shared with students.
Q: Does your HE establishment allow or facilitate the fur industry to promote design competitions, summer schools, sponsorships, internships, or scholarships?
A: Yes – BFTA Student Competition
This university actively engages with the fur industry.
Real fur is cruel and unnecessary. Please urge the University to remove fur from its courses, cease engaging with the fur trade, and adopt a fur free policy. Email: Victoria Bellandini, Senior Lecturer / Programme Leader, firstname.lastname@example.org
